Thought of the Month!

When posed with the question, “Who are you?” most people generally respond with their name.  Suppose for a second you didn’t have a name, then you may identify yourself with your place of origin or your family history, and yes those things make up who you are, but when it comes to defining who you are as an individuals, the things that you identify with most are not always the things that make you unique.

While attending various social functions, I like to observe the people attending and the exchanges that take place between these people.   What I often see is that most women try to look like they just stepped out of the latest R. Kelly’s video and their male counterparts bling-blinging from mouth to neck to wrist and pushing rides that probably cost more than they make a year (with a legal gig that is).  Then I see the women with the least amount of clothes on running up to the guys with the most expensive cars looking for a ride, and of course the men let them in. Both men and women are condoning this type of profiling. People place too much emphasis on what someone has rather then who they are whether it be a phat ride or a fat bootie, and then they want to know why these gold-digging women won’t leave them alone, or these dogs keep barking their way.

I am sure you are all saying, not another article about people who are preoccupied with getting bootie and money, but the reality of it is, that as long as everyone is complaining about it, people are going to be writing about it.

If men and women alike are preoccupied with dressing in the most expensive name brands and wearing the most platinum jewelry trying to impress and out due each other, when do they find the time to discover what makes them unique. They are just reflections of an image, and there is nothing behind that mirror because they only know how to portray what they see in music videos or on television, they don’t know how to be themselves because they don’t know who they are.  People need to take the time to discover what is special about them and leave the styling and profiling to the entertainers.
